The legendary bird of Maranao folklore and symbol of artistry, the Sarimanok, has stories as colorful as its feathers. The term 'Sari' means garment, which the Maranaos have in multiple colors, describing the magical rooster's feathers. According to one legend from the Maranao, the Sarimanok is their totem bird, Itotoro, who connects the physical and spirit worlds with its twin spirit, Inikadowa.
